PEG Tube Training Course | Gastrostomy Tube Care and Management

A gastrostomy tube is placed through a surgically formed fistula in abdominal wall into the stomach and is used for long term enteral nutrition (Guenter ,2001). The procedure has higher rate of infection (Loser et al, 2005). One type is the percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy (PEG) tube which is placed endoscopic procedure. In children, PEG tube insertion is performed under general anaesthesia. PEG tubes are often used inappropriately (Angus, 2003). The overall mortality rate after PEG insertion is high because of the underlying medical problems (Lockett, 2002).
